Quarantine Day 5

Image
Hey Everyone!! How are you? It's been a while. I thought Return of Domestic Nemesis Part 16 (I don't know, have I quit that many times?) would lift our spirits.  I made mini blueberry muffins today! They went pretty well, considering we have this newfangled weighing thing which I used because they use it on the Great British Baking Show. (Also my dear husband, it's been so long I forgot his nickname- uses it for all the bread he makes....)  My only snafu was that I decided not to sprinkle sugar on top before baking because I was like, "Lil Squirrel doesn't need the sugar."  But then when I ate one, I was like, "BORING" so I put sugar in one bowl and water in another bowl and then tried to baste or whats that thing- whatever, I put the sugar on and it was WAY BETTER!  And look at this kid?! These photos belong in a Construction Worker Calendar!   My Darling, (HA I remembered his name!) and Lil S also did some DIRTY stuff yeste...

Long Time Tapioca

Image
Well fans, it's been over a year! But I'm still here! Lil' Squirrel loves playing with trucks in his sandbox and Heidi loves looking for squirrels! She's eyeing one up here perhaps? Well, to get back in the game, I decided to make instant tapioca pudding. Not probably your first choice, but usually, My Darling stocks pudding and jello in the cupboard for when I have a pudding/jello emergency! But, I must have already used the emergency pudding and hadn't restocked, so I figured this tapioca would be a fun adventure! Here's what I learned. #1 The recipe said, "1 egg, well beaten"  I didn't beat it "well" because I was using a fork and was lazy, but it eventually melted into the stuff and it was fine.  As you can see in the picture... #2 Keep using a timer. This is a new thing I'm making myself do and wow, it was awesome! I had to "let it sit for 5 minutes" and I mean, I was washing dishes and reading facebook an...

Making Dinner and Feeding Will at the Same Time

Image
This happened forever ago, (maybe like 2 weeks!) I was obviously making chicken of some sort. Even at this moment, I have to type fast, he could WAKE UP ANY MINUTE. Cut some garlic and snack on some chips. The chicken- I think this is the picture of it "browned." Looks pretty pale! lol The Baby (fuzzy picture, because it was a race!) Making congee (mushy rice in Chinese) Feeding Will congee and mushy lentils. I left for 2 seconds Blocked (he's eating much better now haha) Heidi says, "Where's my snacks?" MMD comes in to cause trouble and eat some of my chips! Spill something on my shorts. Was it sauce or baby food? Can't remember. Chicken is done! Looks pretty good! THE END Ms. Non-Sequitur

Falafel

Image
In baby sleep news.... The other night Lil' Squirrel slept from 7:30 PM to 3 AM. I just about shit my pants. It was the first time in ALMOST 6 MONTHS that I slept more than 4 hours at one time. FanTAStic. The next night, he was back to his hold tricks...but if it happened once, it can happen again! In more recent news, tonight he took the dreaded 6:00 PM NAP Duh duh dunnnn! At 8, I gave him his last bottle (which is still too late, but that late nap screwed everything up) and after 10 minutes of giggling and 10 min of crying, he managed to put himself to sleep! (Okay, 1 time I went in there to make sure he wasn't stuck- and he was) but I'm still pretty proud of him for putting himself to sleep. And who needs a flashback picture? (Major Cutie Reporting for DOODY- GET IT??! He's around 2 months here) and NOW! Look at his big head! Pictures are not to scale. Back to the falafel, I made some from a mix! (I had the ingredients for making it from real food and m...

Cake

Image
I made a cake today for 3 reasons! 1. Yesterday was Lil' Squirrel's 4 month birthday! 2. Today could very well be Heidi's 2 year old birthday! (Mid- April!) 3. AND it's MMD's friend J's actual real birthday today! (Not that he'll probably get a piece since I'm sure he's doing his own thing. But that's okay, I'll eat a piece in his honor!! ) Back to the cake. Here is a still life photo of the cake preparation: MMD recently bought this: Which, since I'm such a baker and all, I should be using, but it scares me. So instead, I decided to buck the system and mix it by hand I decided to be brave and use the mixer for the frosting! I added too much vanilla...but it didn't turn out too bad! I decorated the cake how Grandma Edith used to decorate every cake she made! The End Ms. Non-Sequitur

Mom-ing

Image
Well, I started back to work! I'm super tired, but it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be! That sentence above I wrote 2 weeks ago. I must have gotten distracted. Everything is going pretty well with being a mom except for the sleeping thing. Gosh darnit. I go back and forth between thinking...."he'll do whatever he does" to..."I can control the situation" but regardless. I don't want to think about it anymore today so I'm going to go shopping at the mall, which I haven't done probably since he was born. Now that venting is over I can commence posting some cute pictures! Here's our family from when we went to the Kissers kid friendly early show on St. Paddy's Day! Here's Will in his super cute High Noon Saloon onesie we got from C and R! We also got the crib up, but so far he's just playing in it, we tried one nap, but it was a disaster and then I read you should do nights first! Which...I'm not rea...

A New Beginning

Image
So, I made a human: Basically the coolest thing I ever made. MMD (in case you forgot, MMD stand for Mike My Darling- my awesome husband) also had a hand in the process. :) For blog purposes, I shall refer to my boy as "Squirrel" or "Lil' Squirrel" :)  Mostly because he makes these little squeaking noises when he is breast feeding. (Bummer, I just found video footage of an actual squirrel HERE and it doesn't actually sound like him... alas the damage has been done!)  Anyway, I've been making gingerbread muffins in my mind since I got back from the hospital. I'm not sure why. They spoke to me. So today I finally had the energy to make them! The above picture of Squirrel was taken at the beginning of the baking. At this point, he is a ticking time bomb who could wake up and like...cry :)  So I felt like I was living dangerously and had to get this shit done FAST!  Here's a photo of the bowls. Look carefully at the whisk! Notice the...

Corn Competition

Image
Recently MD and I went camping with Wendell and her Hublet, R! We had a blast.  and here is Heidi and I in the canoe!  The best part of the trip was when Wendell and I decided to grill organic corn on the cob for breakfast! Oh, we were so smart! We half shucked it to pull out the hairs, then re-shucked it? I guess?to put it on the campfire grill. I will spare you all the details, but the corn did NOT taste good? Now, do we blame the grillers?? or the CORN!!!  On the way home from camping, MD and I stopped at a farm stand. I proceeded to buy sweet corn- 6 ears for $3.00 so I could compare it with the organic corn from the co-op that cost $1.29 an EAR!!! As shown here: My plan was to do a taste test competition when we got home learn the truth of the crappy corn grillin' that took place while camping!  To tell the difference, I broke the organic corn in half which was pointless because you could tell them apart from their coloring. The organic ...

5 Minute Queso Dip

Image
Today, I give you a recipe I made up myself!!! Follow the directions exactly as I describe them and you will be full of joy and happiness. 1. Cut up 1 jalepeno like this:   2. Pour yourself a Moscow Mule. 3. Shred some strong cheddar, mild cheddar, and mozzarella until your hand and fingers hurt. 4. Fry the jalepenos and the garlic you forgot to cut up earlier for two minutes.  5. Throw in 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and a 1/2-1 teaspoon of chili power 5. Pour 2-3 seconds worth of half and half 6. Look in the fridge and decide some salsa would be a good idea and add 3 large spoonfuls. 7. Add cheese, stir, taste, add salt and pepper. 8. Get your chips and eat your dip while you are standing over the stove.  9. Continue to eat until you feel sick!!! :)  BONUS FOLLOW UP POST! Earlier, i described the massacre that was my yellow skirt. I began the skirt back in October, you could read the original post here . I finished it with as muc...
