Corn Competition

Image
Recently MD and I went camping with Wendell and her Hublet, R! We had a blast.  and here is Heidi and I in the canoe!  The best part of the trip was when Wendell and I decided to grill organic corn on the cob for breakfast! Oh, we were so smart! We half shucked it to pull out the hairs, then re-shucked it? I guess?to put it on the campfire grill. I will spare you all the details, but the corn did NOT taste good? Now, do we blame the grillers?? or the CORN!!!  On the way home from camping, MD and I stopped at a farm stand. I proceeded to buy sweet corn- 6 ears for $3.00 so I could compare it with the organic corn from the co-op that cost $1.29 an EAR!!! As shown here: My plan was to do a taste test competition when we got home learn the truth of the crappy corn grillin' that took place while camping!  To tell the difference, I broke the organic corn in half which was pointless because you could tell them apart from their coloring. The organic ...

5 Minute Queso Dip

Image
Today, I give you a recipe I made up myself!!! Follow the directions exactly as I describe them and you will be full of joy and happiness. 1. Cut up 1 jalepeno like this:   2. Pour yourself a Moscow Mule. 3. Shred some strong cheddar, mild cheddar, and mozzarella until your hand and fingers hurt. 4. Fry the jalepenos and the garlic you forgot to cut up earlier for two minutes.  5. Throw in 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and a 1/2-1 teaspoon of chili power 5. Pour 2-3 seconds worth of half and half 6. Look in the fridge and decide some salsa would be a good idea and add 3 large spoonfuls. 7. Add cheese, stir, taste, add salt and pepper. 8. Get your chips and eat your dip while you are standing over the stove.  9. Continue to eat until you feel sick!!! :)  BONUS FOLLOW UP POST! Earlier, i described the massacre that was my yellow skirt. I began the skirt back in October, you could read the original post here . I finished it with as muc...

Shortie, but a Goodie

Image
A speed post!!! I was making banana bread, but I didn't have enough bananas (as you can see, I only had 2 tiny bananitas) So I threw in some frozen blueberries instead and holy crap if my bread didn't turn out awesome! It was moist and not too sweet! Here are the pictures to prove it! Can you see MD's toe in the buttered bread picture? HAHA what a sneaker. I cleaned my room today, went to polka practice and am now enjoying a glass of boxed wine in honor of my sweet mother-in-law who has 1 practical glass of wine a day! :) To one-glass-of-wine-drinkers everywhere, I salute you!  Sincerely,  Ms. Non-Sequitur

Yellow Skirt Update

Update : I have commenced work in earnest on the yellow skirt. I only f-ed up twice, so things are moving along smoothly. I quit when I realized I had to thread the bobbin because that is always a pain, even with my brand spanking new Janome.  Yesterday I made my Monday dinner at at Jac's restaurant on Monroe St. It was so funny how they let me into the kitchen to make moules, frites and chicken with lemon pea risotto. I was especially proud of the 1/2 price bottle of wine that I served with dinner.  Thank you and good night, Ms. Non-Seq

The Remnants of my Broken Dreams

Image
are laying on the floor: I was going to make a skirt tonight. A yellow skirt which I've been contemplating for like a year. I've watched various circle skirt videos, read about them in my books, thought about how beautiful my flowy yellow skirt would look. And yet, somehow, I missed this important part about measuring the length right. I know what I did wrong now, so you don't have to tell me (it is in regards to where where you start your measurement.).   I was trying to make a knee length skirt and instead...I cut out this: I pulled up my leggings so you could see how off I am. I mean, I can tell you exactly how much I am off. I'm off by 6.05 inches. (because that's my actual waist divided by pi times two! There is a lot of math in this sewing stuff. Also, there appears to be a problem with the waist itself! BUT I decided if I had followed the directions, maybe that one might have fixed itself? I probably won't add a little extra to my waist "j...

Brat for Breakfast

Image
As you know, I don't like to waste food! So on Friday, I ate this brat for breakfast to save the eggs for later!! Tonight for dinner I made this: Now you might say....lasagna in a box?!! And to that I reply, it's easy, quick, tastes good, costs like $8.99 (Maybe, I don't know, Mike bought it and had it in the freezer) and provided 3 lunch for us to enjoy tomorrow and even the next day!! Missions this week: 1. To go for a hike 2. To eat a salad 3. To use my new lingonberry chapstick 4. Drink more green tea and maybe a little less coffee 5. To fight off the cupcake pushers who try to lure me into their lair of tasty treats Okay, short and sweet! BYE Ms. Non-Sequitur

Hard Boiled Egg Return

Image
Wow, I was going so good on this blog and then who knows what happened? (Well, I do know, I went to Vegas with my buddy for her special birthday, and then it was MY birthday) These pictures sum up one of our evenings. 1. 2.   3. 4.  This one needs a little explaining- if you haven't been to Vegas- Fremont Street has all these people dressed up like famous people or super heros or like that guy... Who was my favorite :) Then it was my birthday! This photo has been in the making for at least a year! Talk about a corn commercial!!! Me and my Auntie! This morning I made this hard boiled egg. The ability to properly take the shell off continues to evade me. I did put the eggs in water, boiled them, turned off the heat. Let them cook, then put them in ice water after like 8 minutes. The texture of the yolk was pretty perfect and it worked perfectly in my cheese, tomato crepe, but crimes. What a shelling nightmare. Okay, I promise to stay on track.....

Dress and Key Lime Pie

Image
Last night I started making this dress I took out the directions and started circling pattern pieces and dreaming about how beautiful my yellow dress would be! How strange it was to discover that the amount of fabric needed the pieces did not equal the amount of fabric I had. Lesson #1: Actually LOOK at the back of a pattern BEFORE buying fabric because it tells you how much you need- all you have to do is add it up! Those pattern companies are so SMART! Anyway, I'm going to make a circle skirt instead an I promise to blog all about it! Fast Easy Dessert: Easiest Key Lime Pie Ever You know how people make like 15 minute meals? I'm always on the look-out for 5 Minute Meals. And this pie, is actually a 5 minute (or less!) dessert. Here is a summarized version of the recipe Mix sweetened condensed milk (1 can), and key lime juice (1/2 cup) with a mixer Add in Cool Whip Pour in pre-bought graham cracker crust. Put in Refrigerator It's especially nice in ...

Love Post

Image
How do you know your sweetheart loves you? Imagine 4 Greenbush Bakery doughnuts. (That look like this!) They were purchased to help commemorate your 1 year anniversary. 2 are for the man and 2 are for the woman. Both of you eat one doughnut immediately and you both decide to "save one for later."  One of you, (in this case, the woman) decides after lunch that it is time to just have half of your second doughnut with the plan to save the rest for later. THEN when you get home, you have another fourth . Pretty soon, you're like, "Whatever, there is such a little bit left, I might as well finish it."  Meanwhile....the other doughnut is still in there! Fast forward to the next day. I watch as MD pulls his doughnut out of the bag with amazement and lust. I sigh to myself and say, well, too bad I ate my 2nd one yesterday, I must live with my decisions even if they end in sorrow. BUT THEN in moment of joy and kindness, your love breaks off a piece-a sol...

EASY Muffins

Image
Do you ever make Easy Muffins? They are REALLY EASY! You buy a box of Krusteaz (Should I make a joke about that brand? You can see a little bit of the box below in the picture.) All you have to do is add water!! WOW I also added some extra cranberries and walnuts, because I never follow a recipe exactly!   In the oven they look like this: It said 12 big OR 24 small, so of course I had to split that up and make 6 big and 12 small! Why have all the same size muffins? Get in my belly! Of course then I FORGOT to bring them to my music teachers meeting  which was the whole reason I MADE THEM! Ha ha good one Ms. Non-Sequitur! Bonus recipe: MD (My Darling if you forgot who that was) makes refrigerator pickles out of them! Like this!) Cut up the cucumbers, add salt, onions, vinegar (I think) and dill and put them in the fridge! There you go! NS

I Am A Genius

Image
This post is titled I Am A Genius because as the Domestic Nemesis, I managed to do the best thing imaginable...marry a Domestic MASTER. My Darling likes to do things like: Vacuum Shine the bathroom faucet and make the bed All things which are my foes! He attacks cleaning head-on, like it's fun or something!? :) He is the perfect foil to my domestic nemesisery!! Here's what I did. I was trying to use the wet swifter or swiffer (?) and I thought you were supposed to rip these things off-- for no reason other than they look I should rip them off--  I guess I thought there would be something sticky underneath them. I was wrong. Luckily, my keen intellect reminded me to put some packing tape on it so it would stick! Like this:   I don't know...those kind of looks like giant maxi pads. But I digress. Also, as a part of my vows, I promised to make dinner every Monday night! I suspect many more posts related to this fact. Often I actually do make dinner. But ...

Peanut Butter Cup Challenge

Image
The challengers: Reese's Peanut Butter Cup VERSUS Trader Joe's Peanut Butter Cup First of all, these pictures are misleading, in the one below I look unsure about the Reeses, even though it was joy in my mouth. Also, there is a mole on my face in all of these pictures, just in case you were wondering.  So yeah it was pretty good! Now for the TJ's... You can assume from my smile below that I liked the TJ's one better, which at first I thought was the case....but then after more subsequent testing, there was something truely unique and salty about the chemically enhanced Reese's. The TJ's PB but was definitely richer, creamier and I'm sure more "healthy" but it's hard to fight years of gut loving Reese's peanut butter cups. I subsequently tasted both types on several more occasions.  Final Answer:  The winner is MY BELLY!! I would happily eat either type of peanut butter cup!!! Ms. Non-Sequiter
