1) It was SO exciting and fun yesterday (Sunday) to find the rice I cooked on SATURDAY still in the pan on the stove- I had totally forgotten to put it in tupperware things! GROSS (see crabby picture) 2) I found this pink chewing gum on my bike wheel?!* And I was like, where the F did that come from because I don't CHEW gum because of my jaw. It was quite a mystery until I remembered that SingingJ crashed on my hide-a-bed last weekend and I know that little punk was chewing gum before bed because I specifically remember saying, "Aren't you going to throw out your gum?" and he was like, "I'm just going to swallow it." NOT :) What should I do? the gum is still on the tire as we speak, same as it is in the picture. 3) This is a picture of my lunch today, not exactly a disaster, but a pretty piss poor meal if you ask me. Just so you are sure, that is a hard boiled egg, a piece of red pepper, some raw zucchinis, and some pita bread. Yumm :) Not pictu...

Boiling Water, The Christians, and My Hair

Image
I don't have a tea kettle that whistles, so I just boil water on the stove in a pan. However, I always forget that I put the water on there and usually, it boils for like 30 minutes! Wasting both GAS and my WATER! Perhaps this confessional will stop my shameful act! Speaking of going to hell, the Christians (I know they are extreme Christians and not regular Christians) on campus are driving me MAD. It seems like every day they are asking me what Jesus would do. I don't know, I think he'd chill out and have a beer and some sex. I don't want your dumb handouts and I don't want to be called a sinner now stop harassing me! Finally, Uncle J didn't even notice my new hair color! I don't even recognize myself when I look in the mirror. I'll leave it up to my viewers: Before After Hmm... Ms. Non-Sequitur PS. Hob actually posted a funny post. Click here and play the video.

Some Household Tips

Image
Helpful Household Tip #1 When making your bed, lie in your bed and put the blankets by the pillows. Then re-fluff the sheet, add the blankets on top and you've made your bed without walking around or barely exerting any energy at all! This is best done right before you go to sleep, definitely NOT in the morning. HHT#2 It is not necessary to wash your water glass out every time you use it. Feel free to re-fill it with water for at least a week. THEN you can wash it and chose a different glass so the other glasses don't feel useless. HHT#3 When sweeping, go around all the objects on the floor, nobody looks under the couch anyway, and it lets the dust bunnies procreate! HHT#4 Dusting? What's that? HHT#5 Throw lots of dinner parties! They are really the only good reason for cleaning your house! As shown by the picture below!

What's that stink? Part deux.

Seriously, every time I opened my cupboard, I was like, what's that stink?? GOODDD it's so gross. I mean EVERY time. I even took all the items off the bottom shelf and scrubbed it with arm and hammer soda stuff. And still...it persisted. Finally, I was like Hob, what's that stink in my cupboard? And he's like...that's no stink, that is asafetida. And sure enough, staring me in the face was this jar of asafetida he had left in there from when we had been cooking Indian. Asafoetida ( Ferula assafoetida , family Apiaceae ), alternative spelling asafetida (also known as devil's dung , stinking gum , asant , food of the gods , hing , and giant fennel ) is a species of Ferula native to Iran . Notice that name, "stinking gum." Actually it is good stuff that helps your belly so you don't...well you know cabbage and beans? What they do to you? Well ironically, this stuff counteracts that- so it always makes you smell fresh like a daisy. Unfortunat...

Just when I think my domestic life is boring because all my cooking and cleaning is going along so swimingly, I discover that the inside of my coffee pot is COVERED in mold because I hadn't washed the little bugger out in like a week. Here is a picture to document the event. Grosssss I washed it out with hot water and soap and made myself a cup of coffee which I am drinking right now! Have a nice Day, Ms. Non-Sequitur

I want to write something exciting

Image
But I don't know what to write about. I could talk about about the errands I'm running today or how I'm finally starting to like funk music. I'm not sure why it has taken me so long. Lots of people I know like funk, and I always thought, what's the big deal?? But I'm starting to find my inner soul or something-- Actually, the big news today is that I need to start making my to-do list for the party! I'm definitely making Swedish meatballs (by myself) and lefsa with Robinowitz, but what else? I mean, obviously I need jello. Don't worry, I just asked RaHa to make that. What else? Taco dip goes without saying....more on this after I've had more time to think. Peace

SATURday

In the Park...I think it was the 4th of July. (Think that song by Chicago) Well, it's the 7th today- So how was everyone's 4th? How do you feel about your independence? I was thinking about that-- how come we always say, "Happy 4th!" and not "Happy Independence!" Wouldn't it seriously be an adventure if we were still part of England? Maybe we'd all have British accents and Canada and the US would all be like one big country. Maybe we'd all have health care? And calling my Canadian friends wouldn't be long distance! Yesss! Pets are so much work. Man, I'm babysitting these fish and they are exhausting. I mean, I have to feed them TWICE a day. Come on! Hee Hee. :) I suppose that's why I murdered my fish in college...I mean I didn't murder him/her I just forgot to feed him/her for like a week or so and then he/she died. Do fish REALLY have a gender? No. They are all just fish. Fish sex (sex like making love) would b...

Chocolate Cake

Image
Did I ever post how I got really mad at my wok a few weeks back and I just threw it away. Yep, I just tossed it in the garbage, it was making me so angry because I think I had disturbed the integrity in the pan when I accidentally left the stove on for like 30 minutes after KT and I made popcorn. Anyway, now I don't have large frying pan. Sorry, I digress, back to the chocolate cake I made yesterday. Here is a picture of how the batter looked when I put it in the cake pan...obviously...something was wrong As you can see, the batter is like REALLY lumpy and doesn't really fit in the pan. I was like, WTF dude? WELL did you know that you have to add WATER to the batter?? YES it is true :) No wonder it was so hard to stir. After looking at the picture directions on the box for the like 4th time, I saw 1 1/3 cup water. Ridiculous. Here is how the batter looked eventually, yes I know, still a little lumpy, I still don't have a mixer. Now worries though, it turned out g...

Dumb Lunch

So I fried up some chopped zucchini, yellow squash, and onions in a pan and boiled some pasta in a pot. After that was cooked, I put it all in a bowl with some jalepeno cheese, butter, and garlic salt. It tasted so bland I added that marinade that I had put on the samlon patties. Ewww. it was so bad I almost died, but I still ate the whole bowl because I was hungry. I need to marry a chef prontisimo. Ms. Non-Sequitur

Glorious Weekend

Image
I'm so happy today! I hope you are too! :) I love waking up early on the weekends! I can't believe I'm saying this, but it is almost worth not going out at night just so I can wake up refreshed and without a headache. This sun is shining in my apt and I'm eating some pumpkin bread from the farmers market and drinking my coffee without milk (and THAT isn't even getting me down) Since the milk always goes bad, I might as well train myself to live without it :) I'm going on the Wisconsin river this afternoon with a new friend from my Spanish class, she's going be a nurse and she's a total hoot! Can't wait to work on the tan! Now a few pictures with descriptions of the fabulous hamburger-potato-Indian spiced patties we made on Friday night. Who needs a potato masher when you can use a mug! It has a handle and everything! Who needs bread crumbs when you can use tortilla chips! Tres Genius! Ick, mushing the crap together with my hand...it was hot--we h...

Salmon Patty

Who buys salmon patties anyway? They are fricking ridiculous. Well, I was at TJ's and they had these tasters things of salmon patty on crackers and I was like, "I can cook that" WRONG. :) The package gave the directions and said nothing about de-thawing...so what do I do? De-thaw them. Fish patty is not like fish chunk, or however fish usually comes, fillet? that's it, fillet. It is like fish all chopped up and then mushed together in a patty. It is also not like steak. For some reason, I thought I had to soak the patties in sauce, like everyone else does when they cook things, they let it soak up like seasoning juice crap. So I soaked them in like some over-the-counter-seasoning juice. That was dumb because-- well I'm not sure why. I baked the patties in the oven instead of frying them on a pan in tin foil in the juice stuff. Well, it is so hard to know when fish is done- I know, the flake thing, but I haven't cooked fish in like a year and I'v...

Graduation

Image
So my youngest cousin Robin is graduating from college today. Her degree is in art/graphic design and I hope she does something really exciting in life :) Check out some of the art she has done HERE . Congratulations Cous! In domestic news, it is seriously time for some spring cleaning. I was going to work on Monday but fek that. It's time to clean the dust bunnies, wait I mean dust horses that are hanging out under my bed and lurking in the corners. I'm still on the look out for free plants...and a plant stand. I think I'm going to start going to rummage sales. Reduce Re-use, Recycle, right? It is very weird to be done with school. I'm not exactly sure what to do with myself. I mean, I've been practicing being blank. It's not that hard. You just sit there and stare or something. I ALSO just bought my first comic book. I don't know, the pictures are kind of a pain in the ass-- :) It's gonna be 80 today- Have a good day! Ms. Non-Sequitur

blah blah blah. zin dijw dog wloing cling slietn coh oih owie ldjf vni kdhgf dihf slidf jm coih kj pwoe wpoe Sometimes it's fun when random typing actually produces some words. (see "cling" above) This paper (#2) is making me crazy! thank god I only have TWO MORE to DO. When will this madness be OVER? Oh yeah, May 16th!!!! The good news is that I applied for a job at the cutest little coffee house near my house! I'll let you know if I got the job. They are going to have beer and wine soon too, which means I can booze while I work. Just kidding. And a little patio with tables and food- so I can be a waitress too. Won't that be fun? You can all come down to my shop and I'll take 10 cents off your coffee :) Although, what if the coffee machine explodes while I'm trying to make a double mocha latte and metal and shards of glass poke me in the eye? No. That would be silly. This picture was taken in Shanghai when it was FREEZING in our apartment and I was watc...

Too funny not to post

A message from my buddy Sally below: Your activist classmates should try to save the librarians instead of saving Africa or boycotting gas- the speedo-wearing guys in the fountain should be dancing around the librarians to save them from turning into horrible, mean old maids who are extra crappy to young college girls with bright futures, like you! Ha Ha (In regards to the speedo reference, some guys were fundraising in Library Mall the other day and they were swimming in the fountain with their speedos on. I was gawking at them and talking to Sal on the phone.) 3 other things: 1)I found a safety pin on the ground yesterday and and I put it in my pocket for good luck. 2) My jeans have the most ridiculous fly that unzips while I am walking to class, so I have to be careful because sometimes I forget to check it and I realize I've just walked 4 blocks with a big hole in the front of my pants. 3) We saw the Daili Lama today! Very cool. His message was about compassion and peace. I ...

The Butter and Drunk Angry Baking

Image
So I put this butter on my couch near the heater/window so it could soften up for me to make cookies (since I'm still using my hand and/or a wooded spoon for mixing). That was like over a week ago. The funny thing is that the Raj got all concerned a few days ago and was like...."There's butter on your couch" and I was like I know I'm softening it up. But THEN I honestly did forget about it and it was there for a few days extra and some butter got on my couch-- anyway I remembered it again the other day and moved it to the counter. So yesterday was perhaps one of the most stressful horrible days I've had in a long time...I always say Tuesdays are bad. And honestly, every Tuesday is bad for me, for reals. So if you're a Leo, you probably have bad Tuesdays too. When I got home at 4:00 I immediately opened a bottle of wine, had a glass, and decided to make the cookies since I didn't want to think about all this emotional baggage I was carrying. O...

Milk Toast Post

Dude I have been seriously lacking in the postage area this week! SERIOUSLY! Today I'm going to a purse party...which I guess is just like a Tupperware party but for purses- Last night after school got out, I mean the library closed at 5, we had a couple beers at the union! Very fun, although there was this weird performer, like a beat poet or something. He kept like reading poetry over these congas and a upright bass--but the poetry was like...SOO BAD!!!! OOOoohh Good idea!! I'll write some: (The congas start a slow random repeating pattern--quarter note then two eighth notes. The bass jumps in with a steady slow strum between G and C) so I was was walking....down the street and I imagined that I saw a four headed cat he was short and fat and running with an ice cream cone in his paw when along came a police officer who asked for his bus pass then thank god the heads merged into one and he handed me a $20 bill and I screamed I LOVE Madison in the spring time Sincerely, Ms....

Coke and the Limerek

Image
I haven't been drinking diet Coke for a while because I just knew Big Business was hurting other countries, I was so glad when I was finally given a reason to really hate Coke! "The American Anthropological Association's Executive Board has endorsed the boycott of Coca-Cola products, citing "the growing anthropological record of problems in communities where the Coca-Cola Company operates." The push to boycott Coke has been growing on campuses, although some institutions have pulled back from it. The company has repeatedly defended its activities and said that critics have distorted its record." from http://www.insidehighered.com /news/2007/03/06/qt Also, KT started Market's Whores on which I also post (along with Hob Gadling) in our wishes to be radically less consumerist-- We've both been posting on it for a few months, but I know we both want to try to write more! In other news.... My dear friend, Crazy T from China send me this poem. His ...
